She was certified by the American Board of Otolaryngology and in July 2002, Dr. Franzmann joined the University of Miami, Department of Otolaryngology. In her role as a researcher, Dr. Franzmann's lab is investigating a simple and inexpensive early detection method for oral cancer. Many millions are threatened by this disease since the main risk factors are tobacco and alcohol use and the human papillomavirus (HPV). With a simple gargle and spit test, patients can learn they are at risk for developing oral cancer long before the first lesion appears. She is the Director of Research for the Division of Head and Neck Surgery. Dr. Franzmann also serves as Chief Scientific for Vigilant Biosciences, a start-up company founded on this oral rinse early detection technology. The company plans to make this oral cancer screening tool available to the general public in the near future. Most of Dr. Franzmann's clinical career has been spent providing surgical expertise to head and neck cancer patients at Jackson Memorial Hospital and the University of Miami. She has recently opened a practice in Deerfield Beach.  Dr. Franzmann has also been awarded recognition in the Best Doctors in America for the last three years.
