Dr Raul Mitrani is Director of Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology at University of Miami, Miller School of Medicine and has been treating patients with heart rhythm disorders for over 20 years. As an Academic Cardiac Electrophysiologist, Dr Mitrani treats patients with simple and complex cardiac arrhythmias including atrial fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supraventricular tachycardia and syncope. Dr Mitrani performs invasive and non-invasive diagnostic tests to help guide therapy. He has performed numerous catheter ablations over his career using the most advanced techniques to ablate the sources of cardiac arrhythmias by delivering radiofrequency or cryoballoon energy. In addition, Dr Mitrani implants cardiac pacemakers, defibrillators and diagnostic monitors in patients needing these devices
In addition to his clinical responsibilities, Dr Mitrani is actively involved in research and teaching. He has authored or coauthored numerous papers on diverse topics including the role of cardiac stem cells in cardiac arrhythmias, optimal blood pressure control in patients with atrial fibrillation, and others. He participates in NIH sponsored multicenter trials such as the CABANA Trial, a study to compare catheter ablation versus pharmacologic therapy in patients with atrial fibrillation. Lastly, he actively participates in teaching from medical students to Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellows and won the 2012 Cardiology Teaching Award.
