Robert J. Myerburg, M.D., professor of medicine and physiology, and the American Heart Association Chair in Cardiovascular Research, and Maureen H. Lowery, M.D., professor of medicine and Director of the Noninvasive Cardiovascular Laboratory at University of Miami Hospital, have written a commentary in response to the first-ever Scientific Statement on cardiac arrest in pregnancy published by the American Heart Association.

Surrounded by reporters and TV cameras, and wearing exercise clothing, UHealth patient Noel Zuniga ran hard on a treadmill at University of Miami Hospital’s Cardiac Rehabilitation Center. His workout during a press briefing on October 2 was a way of demonstrating how UHealth doctors changed his life for the better in the past year through a novel stem cell procedure that has healed much of the damage to his heart.

UHealth Surgeon Only Florida Doctor Trained to Perform Newly Approved Gastric Balloon Placement

Nestor de la Cruz-Munoz, M.D., leader of bariatric surgery at UHealth – University of Miami Health System, is the only Florida surgeon and one of a handful of surgeons in the U.S. trained to perform the newly approved ORBERA Intragastric Balloon procedure. On August 6, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) approved the use of the non-surgical procedure to help adult patients suffering from obesity.

UM Hospital CEO David Zambrana Receives Hispanic Leadership Award

David Zambrana, D.N.P., M.B.A., the CEO of University of Miami Hospital, received the Hispanic Leadership Award in the health care category March 20 at the annual awards luncheon held by the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The awards luncheon is a signature event that recognizes individuals who demonstrate excellence in a variety of fields within the Hispanic market of South Florida.
