In addition to leading the way in cardiovascular care, the University of Miami Hospital Cardiology Department, along with the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, are dedicated to the use of less invasive procedures and the discovery of new treatment modalities.
Under the direction of UHealth and UM Hospital leadership, impressive additions in services, treatment modalities, clinical trials, diagnostic imaging, and facilities have been instituted, further enhancing cardiac care at UMH. These include:
- Prevention programs, such as the HeartAware Assessment, a seven-minute test that can save your life. Click here to take the test.
- New state-of-the-art electrophysiology and catheterization laboratories.
- Minimally invasive cardiac surgical procedures, using such technologies as the HD da Vinci surgical system.
- Clinical trials, including percutaneous aortic valve replacement. UM Hospital is the first hospital in Florida to offer this life-saving procedure.
- Cardiac stem cell therapy trials using a patient’s own stem cells to repair the heart.
- Sophisticated cardiac diagnostic imaging to include the addition of a 128-slice CT scan.
- First in South Florida with Odyssey HD Monitoring in Hybrid Surgical Suite designed to combine minimally invasive percutaneous cardiology and vascular interventions with cardiovascular surgical procedures.
- International outreach program providing access to cardiac care and treatment worldwide.
